Module analysts draw different conclusions from Coolmore Stud Stakes

Shape analyst Mick Sharkie is wary that the Jacquinot boom colt may have already peaked before Saturday’s 1200m Coolmore Stud Stakes in Flemington.

Jacquinot is a second $ 5.50 favorite with a bet for the Group 1 sprint, but is coming out of two grueling races: winning the Group 1 Rose Gold over the 1400m Rosehill and finishing fifth in a brutal ride on Everest (1200 m).

“Jacquinot has been asked to peak twice in this prep already,” fitness expert Mick Sharkie said in this week’s episode of Punts Inside Run.

“Although he is a serious colt, it will be a herculean effort if he manages to peak in this race.”

Sharkie is tipping James Cummings In Secret’s filly to win the Coolmore on her first start down the Flemington Straight.

In Secret, to be ridden by star hoop James McDonald, he would have had to turn the tables on Jacquinot after finishing second to the Victorian colt in the Golden Rose.

Punts.com.au module analyst James Lamb disagreed with co-rapporteur Sharkie on The internal race of Scommitter.

Lamb is tipping Jacquinot to get the job done.

“Internal Affairs raced on Everest last year and then they went back to this race and won by three lengths, so there is a nice little precedent for Jacquinot.

“I’m not sure he’ll necessarily be over the top: he’s only fourth and his races have been pretty well spaced.”
