Vasily Lomachenko beat Jamaine Ortiz in a grueling fight that went the distance at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Lomachenko, on his return to the ring seven months after joining Ukraine’s war against Russia, beat Ortiz by unanimous decision, 115-113, 116-112, 117-111.
Lomachenko will now likely face undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney in a unification match.
Haney watched from the ring and said after the fight: “I think it wasn’t the best performance… but congratulations. We hope to succeed “.
In response, Lomachenko said: “I’m ready”.
