It was another game where it looked like Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson didn’t seem in tune with his attack, but coach Nathaniel Hackett revealed another potential reason after the 19-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Wilson faced a hamstring injury during the game, Hackett said via DenverFan.com.
The veteran who called the signal was not supposed to get out of the game, even though the Broncos were eager to try and throw the ball at the Chargers defense. They passed the ball 23 times, with Latavius Murray surprisingly getting the most hits, going for 66 yards on 15 carries.
Melvin Gordon III was on the sideline for most of the night, carrying the ball three times for just eight yards.

Wilson went 15 of 28 in the air for 188 yards and a touchdown, and was sacked four times for a total loss of 28 yards.
The Chargers defense was putting tremendous pressure on Wilson in the second half to the point where Drue Tranquill’s second sack of the night was a direct cannon shot on Wilson. Khalil Mack and Derwin James Jr. also joined Wilson in the backfield.
Injury or not, it was another prime time performance for Wilson that was sub-par. Last week against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night, he shot for 274 yards but didn’t have a touchdown pass, instead he threw two interceptions and has a quarterback score of 54.9, the worst score of the season.

With tonight’s numbers, Wilson has now achieved a completion rate of less than 54% even in consecutive games.
And the defeat was certainly not the fault of the Broncos defense, a unit that was also Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert all night. They did not allow a touchdown pass to someone who had converted one in 36 out of 37 games before.

The Broncos’ attack damaged this side who sits last in AFC West, as they broke 20 points only once in six games this year.

But Hackett blamed himself.
“First of all, start with me … we have to find better plays for the boys,” he said.

If this hamstring injury continues to hurt Wilson ahead of the game against the New York Jets, Brett Rypien is the team’s backup for now.
