World Series 2022: Astros’ Chas McCormick makes an incredible catch in the 9th inning

One of the biggest plays of Game 5 of the World Series between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night came on the defensive side in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Phillies catcher JT Realmuto had one knocked out in the ninth inning and brought Astros closer to Ryan Pressly deep in the center right court. The crowd at the Citizens Bank Ballpark held their collective breath as the ball headed for the fence. Chas McCormick was also following the ball.

“I thought it hit him,” McCormick said. “You have a great swing on it. He’s a great hitter. But in that moment of the game you just have to focus on the defense.”

The Astros took a 3-2 win, taking a 3-2 lead in the series and now they need a win to win their second World Series since 2017.

Houston got a valuable play from Justin Verlander, who scored six in five innings on the way to his first World Series win of his big career. The Astros also got a home run from Jeremy Peña in the fourth inning to put Houston in the lead.
