Mass shooting: gunmen on the loose after nine victims were shot

At least nine people were shot dead in a mass shooting allegedly perpetrated by multiple gunmen outside a popular US bar during its intense Saturday night exchange.

The attack took place around 10:45 pm local time outside a nightclub in Kensington, an area of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. NBC reported.

Police have since said around 40 shots were fired after a group of gunmen alighted from a black vehicle parked in the middle of the block.

Nine victims – all adult men and women – were rushed to hospital, with seven in stable condition and the other two in critical condition.

“We have cheeky people in this city who don’t care. They don’t care how many police officers there are out here. And some of them don’t care how many people are out here. We continue to do what we need to do to put these people into custody, ”said First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford of the Philadelphia Police Department.

The reason for the shooting is unclear.

“At this point, it looks like these people spotted someone they wanted to shoot at, got out of the vehicle and started shooting at the group of people who were there. We don’t have much more in the way of motivation.”

The gunmen, who immediately escaped in the black vehicle after the shooting, remain at large.

Mr. Stanford said there were likely to be more than nine victims.

Initial reports suggested that 12 people had been shot dead, however it was later reported that nine victims had been confirmed.
