Kim Kardashian reveals she wore Marilyn Monroe’s second dress after the Met Gala

In the wake of the hustle and bustle Kim Kardashian wearing a historian Marilyn Monroe dress for Gala of 2022 Earlier this week, she revealed in a tweet on Friday that she had slipped another of the starlet’s clothes that night in her hotel room.

Kardashian posted a photo of herself in a sequined green dress that she described as Monroe’s “Norman Norell dress” which she wore to the Golden Globes in 1962 when she received the Henrietta Award for World Film Favorite.

Kardashian included a photo of Monroe in the dress with actor Rock Hudson.

HuffPost could not immediately confirm that it was Monroe’s real dress. Kardashian appeared to be wearing the dress differently than Monroe, with the shoulder pads in alternating positions.

It was a nervous post after the controversy erupted when Kardashian showed up at the Met Gala in the beaded Jean Louis dress Monroe wore when she sang a super sexy version of “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy in 1962.

Several observers were shocked that the Kardashian risked damaging the iconic 60-year-old dress. Monroe had been the only person who had ever worn her dress.

Textile conservatives and fashion curators were particularly shocked.

“It it withdraws what is considered professional treatment for historical costume, “Sarah Scaturro, chief curator at the Cleveland Museum of Art and former curator at Met’s Costume Institute, told the Los Angeles Times.

“My concern is that colleagues from the historical costume collections will now be pressured by important people to wear them [historic] clothing, ”he added.

“We just don’t wear historical archival pieces,” said Cara Varnell, a longtime independent art restorer specializing in historical clothing.

Something that is “archived means that it has enough cultural significance that we appreciate it and want to save it,” added Varnell. “The dress represents something very important, it is part of ours collective cultural heritage. I’m speechless for this. “

Kardashian insisted that she only wore the dress to the gala for a “few minutes. ” So she she didn’t wear her typical body makeup that night to protect the dress, she told Vogue.

The reality star said she first tried on the dress at her California home in Calabasas after it was flown there by private plane. The dress is normally stored at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando Museum, Florida.

On the night of the gala, Kardashian donned the historic gown in a small room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with the help of a Ripley’s conservationist, he said.

After walking up the stairs to the Met, she changed Monroe’s dress and put on a replica, she said.

“I’m extremely respectful of the dress and what it means to American history,” said Kardashian. “I would never want to sit or eat or run the risk of damaging it.”

Kardashian said he “discovered” the second Monroe dress during his “search” to find the dress she wore to the gala, she tweeted.

In what appeared to be some kind of olive branch to critics, Kardashian tweeted Friday that “it will forever be one of the greatest privileges of my life to be able to channel my inner Marilyn in this wayon such a special night “.
