Unfortunately, like almost all countries, Thailand’s tourism industry was badly hit by the pandemic what with all the border restrictions. Tanes Petsuwan, Deputy Governor for International Marketing for Asia and South Pacific, revealed in a recent media conference at Conrad Manila that there was an 80 percent drop of number of tourists for the past two years. But with Thailand coping with the Covid-19 health crisis and the country recognizing the large contribution of tourism industry, Tourism Authority of Thailand is now ready to welcome more tourists into their country, including Filipinos. With its new campaign Amazing New Chapter, Thailand presents a refreshed take on the great travel moments tourists can experience in Thailand. For those wanting to recover from the pandemic slump, Thailand has the multi sensory offerings of grand temples, astounding nature sights and even the unmistakable calmness of a Thai massage. As for those who want to experience see more of Thailand, the country has heart-jumping activities such as bungee jumping, wakeboarding, diving, rafting, and paragliding. All these of course on top of the many Thai offerings previous tourists have come to love.

Best of all, Petsuwan guarantees the safety of tourists when they visit Thailand. Since its reopening late last year, the country has implemented Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA), a project that resulted from the cooperation of Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Ministry of Public Health, as well as other relevant sectors. SHA’s main goal is to ensure travelers’ confidence on safety and hygiene when traveling in Thailand, which was recently certified by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) to be on par with the WTTC Safe Travels global health and hygiene standardized protocols.
During this period, Thailand implemented “Test and Go,” among its other schemes, which allowed vaccinated travelers to enter the country without quarantine as long as they test negative for RT-PCR upon their arrival and for Antigen Test Kit on their 5th day of stay in Thailand.”But beginning May 1, RT-PCR testing is lifted, only antigen test is needed for tourists entering the country,” Petsuwan shared.Since the beginning of the year until April 2022, Thailand has welcomed 501,716 travelers, with approximately 5,260 Filipino already visiting the country. But with easier travel requirements and people’s confidence in traveling anew, Petsuwan is positive that Thailand will hit its goal of at least the 10 million international tourists for 2022.
