Wage increase for low-paid workers ‘welcomed’: McManus

ACTU Secretary Sally McManus says the union movement is “happy and proud” that they have fought so hard for an increase to the minimum wage and that it is going to make a “big difference” for so many workers. Ms McManus’ comments follow the Australian Fair Work Commission’s announcement the minimum wage will increase by 5.2 per cent.“Whilst it is not exactly what we wanted, we welcome this increase because we know it’s actually going to make (a) big, big difference to 25 per cent of the workforce,” Ms McManus said during a media conference on Wednesday.
