Modabi urges Pirates management to bring McCarthy aboard

Orlando Pirates’ management was advised not to waste time and to hire former AmaZulu FC manager Benni McCarthy now, says former Bucs player Gerald Modabi.

Modabi believes McCarthy is the best possible coach at the moment who can help the Pirates get back to their best and start winning titles.

McCarthy split from Usuthu this week after nearly two seasons with the club and helped the club make history by finishing second in the standings in his first season at the helm of the club and qualifying for the Caf Champions League.

“I think Benni will do wonders for the Pirates, he has the ability to make a team tick, look what he did with AmaZulu, he made them one of the best teams in the country. I truly believe he is a manager who can make the Pirates the best team that they should be, “the former Pirates player said.

“Look at the Pirates team, there are quality players on that team, but they can’t compete with the Sundowns. I think they are the only team that can tiptoe with the Sundowns. They just need the right coach and the right coach. They should borrow him and not waste time because I’m sure there are some teams who might even want to sign him. Once the Pirates take on McCarthy, I am confident they will be able to win the championship in his first season with the club. He is the right coach and the right man for the Pirates’ job. “

Modabi also added that he was puzzled that AmaZulu let McCarthy go after having a good campaign last season.

“I was really surprised when I heard he was leaving AmaZulu, it was really unexpected because I thought he would be happy there. But this thing gave the Pirates a chance to get the best coach. No disrespect for the guys who manage the club now, but McCarthy is the best possible candidate for the Pirates job. “
