Largely due to an ACL snatched in the Rams’ Super Bowl win, receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is left without a contract.
If it were for Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay, it wouldn’t be and OBJ would wear the Rams uniform again. McVay said so much during an appearance on Thursday Eisen’s Rich Showtelling the show host, “Oh sure. I really want Odell back to our team. He’s a guy with whom, in a short amount of time, we’ve been able to develop a very special relationship.”
Beckham joined the Rams last November and became an immediate collaborator. In seven regular season games he has found the end zone five times. He added two more touchdowns during the post-season run in Los Angeles.
Throughout the off-season Beckham has been linked to several teams, including Saints, Packers, Browns (yes, seriously) and Rams, among others. Although he is still recovering from his injury, Beckham appears to be waiting to sign until he receives a richer offer than is currently on the table.
“They know where (sic) I want to be just that I can’t play for free,” Beckham tweeted last week, in response to a comment that had him ready to sign with Los Angeles again.
Although McVay doesn’t manage the Rams’ finances, he looks like a guy willing to help the defending champions find some extra cash to fatten up OBJ’s wallet. “I thought he brought a great spark to our team,” McVay told Rich Eisen. “I thought he played really well. He’s a great teammate.”
Beckham Jr. will likely be sidelined until late November or early December as he continues to recover from his torn second ACL in 18 months. His continued recovery offers additional time and opportunity for McVay and the Rams to find a way to bring OBJ back to Los Angeles.
“Without a doubt, I want to bring Odell back here,” added McVay. “This is the goal and to continue working towards a solution for him to sign with the Rams again.”
That would certainly qualify as a Hollywood finale for one of the NFL’s biggest stars.
