Shugo Imahira secured a spot in the 150th British Open at St Andrews at the end of the year, after benefiting from a belated collapse of fellow countryman Yuto Katsuragawa by winning the Diamond Cup of the Asia Pacific Open Golf Championship on Sunday.
Imahira’s one-shot victory at Oarai Golf Club in Ibaraki Prefecture, in the first Asian Tour event held in Japan since September 2019 due to the pandemic, was enough to secure a third career appearance at the Open for the Japan Golf Tour pro.
