[WATCH] Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 features for clean air filtering

Pet hair, smoke, dust, the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 claims to be able to handle it all.
Though it weighs about 6kg on paper, it actually feels deceptively light. Here’s what else we found throughout using it.
A glimpse of it
The design of the air purifier is a simple white cuboid with curved edges. Lacking a handle up top, you’ll need to bend down to pick up the whole device if you wish to move it around.

It has an OLED screen in the front which displays temperature, humidity, PM2.5 value, mode settings, and WiFi connectivity.
PM2.5 (Particulate Matter) values are tiny particles or droplets in the air that are two and a half microns or less in width. Examples include smoke, dust, or polluted air.
The large numbers on the screen show how many fine particles there are in the air. The higher the number, the higher the pollution.
Exposure to fine particles can cause short-term health effects such as coughing and sneezing. So having the room at a reading of below 21 is a good air quality level.
There is one button at the back to toggle the screen’s dimness setting to Night Mode, where the air can circulate at a lower noise level of 23 decibels, so your sleep won’t be disturbed.

Airing things out
The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of up to 400m³/h (cubic metre per hour). It has the ability to purify a 20m² room, which is equivalent to a small apartment living room, in about 10 minutes.
Something thing worth noting is that the air purifier has a power cable that measures only five feet, so you might need an extension cable depending on where you choose to place the device.

The device works by pulling air from its sides, which passes through its filter, then evacuates it upwards through a fan on its top, so it’s best not to place it too near to walls or corners.
It also has a negative air ionisation feature that helps release cleaner air.
A smart app and voice controls
Changing the modes on the air purifier is accessible on the device itself, without having to connect to WiFi or the Mi Home app. But the app gives you access to more controls and functionalities.

The app lets you set up schedules, informs you when you need to change the filter, and assigns automation based on if/then rules. The rules apply to other devices in the Mi ecosystem.
You can control the settings remotely as well. Additionally, it has built-in voice controls with Google Assistant and Alexa.
Simplified maintenance
The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 uses a filter that can last between six to 12 months. It’s also easy to clean the unit itself.
To do so, the fan on top needs to be unscrewed, and a magnetic door on its back lets you remove its carbon filter to wipe away the dust with a damp cloth.

For RM799, we deem the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 a worthy device to have at home, especially for those who are allergy prone.
