Australian Ben Mendelsohn wins an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor

But Mendelsohn’s chilling portrayal of an outcast family member on Netflix’s “Bloodline” was recognized at the ceremony in Los Angeles, which he did not attend.

“Game of Thrones” ended up winning Best Drama Emmy for the second consecutive year, while “The People vs. OJ Simpson” won nine awards, including Best Limited Series.

Tatiana Maslany won Best Actress in a Drama for “Orphan Black”, while Rami Malek won Best Actor award for “Mr. Robot”.

‘Veep’ wins best comedy

Jeffrey Tambor won the Best Actor in a Comedy Award for “Transparent”, where he thanked Jill Soloway who won the Best Comedy Director award.

“You changed my life, you changed my career and you changed everything,” he said.

As reigning champion of the category, Tambor has led the way since the start of the Emmy season. He got a wave of compliments for his portrayal of transgender Maura Pfefferman.

He concluded his speech by asking creatives to give “transgender talent a chance”.

“Do auditions for them,” he said. “Give them their story. Do it.

“I wouldn’t be unhappy if I were the last cisgender male to play a transgender woman on television, we have work to do.”

Meanwhile, actor Aziz Ansari broke into the Emmy run, winning Best Screenplay for his Netflix autobiographical comedy “Master of None.”

But the gong for best comic series went to “Veep”, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Previously, she had won her fifth lead actress in an Emmy comedy, which she dedicated to her late father, William Louis-Dreyfus.

“I’m so glad he liked” Veep “, because his opinion was what really mattered,” he said in an emotional acceptance speech.

Former GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush also made a surprise appearance during host Jimmy Kimmel’s opening sketch.

Bush was the limo driver for Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character in “Veep”.

“Are you nominated?” Bush asks Kimmel. “Wow, how is it?”

“If you have a positive campaign, the voters will eventually make the right choice,” he joked.
