Shireen Abu Akleh: Al Jazeera reporter shot and killed in Jenin, West Bank

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said she was shot in the head in Jenin and confirmed her death shortly after. A second reporter, Ali Al-Samudi, was also shot and in stable condition, the ministry said.

Al Jazeera accused the Israeli security forces of killing Akleh, saying: “Israeli forces shot Shireen Abu Akleh in the head while he was on a mission in Jenin.”

The IDF said its security forces were operating in the area “to arrest suspects in terrorist activities” and both Palestinian suspects and Israeli forces were firing at the time.

“As part of the Jenin refugee camp activity, the suspects fired heavily at the force and fired explosives. The force responded by firing. Shots were detected,” the IDF said.

“The possibility that journalists have been hit, possibly by Palestinian gunshots, is being investigated,” the IDF added.
